Plans by the executive of Mayo County Council to reduce the General Municipal Allocation to councillors has been scrapped, ahead of the council's budget meeting next Monday.
Mayo County Council's executive had proposed reducing the GMA allocation for each councillor by up to €11,000 in 2021 - this is funding councillors allocate to community groups in their individual municipal districts.
However, following a pre-Budget workshop and negotiations behind the scenes, the GMA funding will not be cut.
Crossmolina based Fianna Fail Councillor Michael Loftus says councillors in the Ballina Municipal District should be getting an additional amount.
Cllr. Loftus told Midwest News today after their local Municipal meeting that an extra fund of some description now needs to come on stream.
