The HSE will recommence processing Primary Medical Certificates for disabled drivers and passengers following the withdrawal of the scheme earlier this year.
That was confirmed to Roscommon Deputy Denis Naughten by the Minister for Finance.
The Independent TD has campaigned for the reinstatement of the Disabled Drivers Scheme, saying its suspension was effectively marooning people who did not have direct access to public transport.
In response to a query by Deputy Naughten, Minister for Finance Paschal Donohoe said he instructed the HSE to start processing applications for the Cert in the same manner as they did before.
The Minister also went on to state that he intends to carry out a review of the Disabled Drivers Scheme next year.
Deputy Naughten told Midwest News that he still questions if public health doctors will be in a position to process a backlog of applicants and if the same interpretation of the rule will apply.
