Concerns are being raised about the proposal to relocate the Post Office services in Ballymote, according to the Cathaoirleach of Sligo County Council Dara Mulvey.
The Fine Gael councillor says he has no issue with the change of Agent as this has been an agency office for some time.
However, the current building has been the main Post Office for over 100 years.
He describes it as an “iconic building” in a central location -The Rock Ballymote ,adjacent to the Credit Union and the newly constructed 54 space car park that is due to open shortly.
Cathaoirleach Mulvey is calling on An Post to ensure the counter services remain in the current building, as the mail sorting office for all of south Sligo is located at the rear of this building and there is increasing fear for its future locally if the counter services are withdrawn.
