Over €5 million has been allocated for the expansion of the Great Western Greenway in Mayo.

This is part of a package of €63.5 million announced this morning by Transport Minister Eamon Ryan and Minister of State Hildegarde Naughton for a range of Greenways across the country -which is the highest amount ever allocated to greenways in a single year.

€5,150,000 has been allocated has been allocated for Mayo's Great Western Greenway, and Mayo TD Alan Dillon says this investment is to extend the route from Achill Sound to Bunacurry, and from Westport to Murrisk - adding 52 kilometres to the popular tourist route.

Deputy Dillon, who's the Fine Gael spokesman on Tourism & Sport, says it's great news for the greenway, which has been a phenomenal success for Mayo.
