5 more deaths were confirmed yesterday evening from Covid-19, with 322 new cases.

In this region, there were 8 new cases in Sligo, 7 in Mayo, 5 in both Galway and Roscommon and less than 5 in Co Leitrim, which has the lowest 14-day incidence rate of the virus nationally.

The average 14-day rate nationally is now 228 per 100,000 people - that has fallen by a quarter since its peak on Oct 25th.

Cavan, Meath & Westmeath have the highest rates, while Sligo, Galway and Roscommon all have incidence rates above the national average.

Mayo's 14-day rate is now at 214 per 100,000 people.

Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan said that, due to the efforts of people across Ireland, we are seeing improvements with Covid-19, but maintaining this downward trend is now crucial, and he's urging everyone to keep up their efforts.
