Gardai in Ballina are appealing for witnesses after a man sustained injuries in the early hours of yesterday (Mon) morning following an alleged attack on him with what’s described as “an implement”.
In follow up investigations two vehicles were later seized by gardai in a separate area of the town and a hatchet was recovered.
A number of people are now assisting the gardai in their investigations and an incident room has been set up at Ballina garda station.
Garda Superintendent Joe Doherty says while no arrests have been made gardai are following a definite line of inquiry.
Speaking to Midwest News he thanked the general public for their assistance so far in this investigation and particularly local neighbourhood watch groups.
The incidents, that gardai believe may be connected, occurred in the Convent Hill area of the town and in the Tyrawley Tce area.
Gardai are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed any suspicious activity in either area in the early hours of yesterday morning to make contact with them at 096 21422
