There's been a 15% drop in new car registrations in Mayo to date this year.
New figures from the Society of the Irish Motor Industry show new car registrations nationally for the month of October were down 6% on the same month last year, while registrations for the year to date are down over 25% on 2019.
In Mayo, 1,625 new cars were registered in the first ten months of this year - down 15% on January-October 2019.
Brian Cooke, Director General of the Society of the Irish Motor Industry says that, with car showrooms closed for the next number of weeks due to Covid restrictions, retailers have been enhancing their online presence, particularly with the month of November being the key selling period for forward orders for the new registration plate in January.
He says manufacturers and retailers are already offering generous incentives for customers to buy a new car.
