The full 10 euro for all ewes must be made available to more sheep farmers under the Sheep Welfare Scheme for the CAP transition period.
That’s the view of IFA National Sheep Chairman Sean Dennehy. The IFA is now calling on the Department of Agriculture to change the reference years of the Scheme. They say the reference years do not reflect the current flock numbers of many sheep farmers within the scheme who have developed their enterprise since the reference period and need to be changed.
Sean is also urging the Department to allow new entrants into the scheme.
He spoke to Midwest News today about why the IFA are making this case for sheep farmers.
