An immunologist says the economic and health impacts of Level 5 restrictions will have to be re-examined this week.
The national 14-day incidence rate of Covid 19 has continued to fall and now stands at 253 per 100 thousand.
Sligo has third highest incidence rate in the country at 360 per 100,000 people.
It is followed in Connacht by Galway at 298, Mayo with 244 and Roscommon with 205 cases per 100,000 people.
Leitrim now has the lowest incidence rate in the country at 106 cases per 100,000 people.
Professor of Immunology at Maynooth University, Paul Moynagh, says Level 5 needs to be looked at again this week.
