The Mayo Dark Sky Park held their 5th annual festival virtually yesterday due to Covid-19 restrictions.
The park is Ireland’s first International Dark Sky Park and showcases some of the darkest, most pristine skies in the world.
It also has the country’s only International Dark-Sky Association Gold Tier standard classification, which it achieved by addressing the need of biodiversity, energy and social ambience whilst showcasing heritage in a sensitive environment.
The park in north Mayo encompasses both Ballycroy National Park and the Nephin Mountain range.
Expert speakers gave talks to people on zoom from across the world as part of the celebrations.
Georgia MacMillan, the project manager of the Mayo Dark Sky Park, will talk to Midwest News about yesterday’s events on Evening Edition...
