Two Status Orange wind warnings are in effect for 12 coastal counties around the country, with Storm Aiden forecast to bring gusts of up to 130km/h.
Around 3,000 homes and businesses are already without power due to the storm.
Gardaí are this morning appealing to people to avoid all unnecessary travel and take extreme care as the storm tracks across the country.
A Status Orange warning is valid until 4pm for counties Mayo, Galway,
Sligo, Donegal and Clare.
We are being told to look out for very damaging gusts of up to 130km per hour - especially near coasts.
