Patients at Mayo University Hospital can receive packages dropped off for them by family or friends at the hospital’s reception area.
Due to the ongoing visiting restrictions it is not possible for family members to visit patients in the hospital, other than exceptional circumstances such as end of life or critical care.
To support patients, family or friends can drop off or collect patient property at the main hospital entrance between 5pm and 6.30pm each evening.
The public are requested to limit each drop off to one shopping size bag and to ensure there is no money or other high value items in the bag.
Padraig O’Luanigh, Director of Nursing at the hospital explained that the visiting restrictions were introduced to reduce footfall in the hospital and reduce the risk of the spread of COVID-19. They are trying to balance patients’ needs while keeping patients and staff as safe as possible.
During working hours the hospital entrance is very busy; with patients attending for outpatient appointments, for surgery and other planned procedures, so families/carers can only drop off or collect their bag between 5pm and 6.30pm.
