The national 14-day incidence rate of Covid-19 per 100,000 people has fallen below 300 for the first time in over a week.

6 more deaths were reported last night from the virus, along with 675 new cases - the lowest daily figure in almost three weeks.

This includes 13 new cases in Galway -which has seen almost a thousand new cases in the past two weeks.

There were less than 5 new cases yesterday in each of the other Connacht counties - Mayo, Roscommon, Sligo and Leitrim.

However, both Sligo and Galway's 14-day incidence rate of the virus remains above the national average.

327 people with Covid-19 were being treated in Irish hospitals last night, while 40 patients were in intensive care units.

The National Public Health Emergency Team will hold its weekly meeting today to review the latest Covid-19 trends.

It's one week since the Level 5 restrictions were introduced to suppress Covid-19 in Ireland - the restrictions are due to remain in place for another five weeks.
