Gardai are reporting very wet roads across the West this morning, and are advising motorists to slow down and keep well back from other road users.
A status yellow rainfall warning is now in place for the Connacht counties, with heavy and persistent rain through until tomorrow morning, leading to some flooding and disruption.
Met Eireann is warning of up to 60 mm of rain in the region - possibly higher in mountainous regions.
The warning is in place until 6am tomorrow morning.
And winds are also set to strengthen, with a status yellow wind warning issued for Mayo and Galway from 10 am this morning until later this afternoon.
Met Eireann is ewarning of strong southwest winds today, gusting up to 100 km/h - strongest in western parts of Mayo and Galway.
Motorists are warned that wind-blown debris is likely on roads and are urged to take extra care on all routes, and be mindful of other road users - particularly cyclists and pedestrians.
