There aren’t a handful of pubs in Mayo open now under Level 3 Covid Restrictions, according to the Mayo Chairperson of the Vintners Federation, Alan Gielty.
Alan is the owner of Gielty's Bar and Restaurant on Achill Island, and has, like most publicans in the county been forced to close down his business since the latest restrictions were introduced last week.
He says it’s simply not realistic to serve food and drink outdoors in Mayo in the month of October, due to the weather conditions.
Pub and restaurant owners across the region are devastated by the impact of the restrictions on their livelihoods, he says, and has called on the government to control the sale of alcohol in off-licences if it’s serious about crushing the curve of Covid 19 incidences.
Speaking to Midwest News todayAlan explained that there are just a handful of pubs in the county now open for business.
