You would have a  better chance of hooking a shopping trolley than a fish from the Castlebar Town River and Lough Lannagh, according to local Fine Gael Cllr Ger Deere.

Cllr Deere is member of Castlebar Tidy Towns Committee and made the claim after volunteers from Tidy Towns removed two more trolleys from the river yesterday, bringing the number removed from the Castlebar river and lake by the Tidy Towns volunteers and staff members from Mayo Adventure Experience to 32 trolleys so far this year.

Cllr Deere TOLD Midwest News today that the situation is out of hand and it must be stopped, and is confounded by what motivates anyone to discard a shopping trolley into a river or lake.

Jarlath Mc Hale who operates Mayo Adventure Experince and Castlebar Adventure Hub at Lough Lannagh says he and his staff have removed several trolleys from the Lake and river, and added that they pose a serious safety issue for his clients and staff.
