It's now four years since a new 50-bed unit was announced for the  Sacred Heart Hospital in Roscommon, but the HSE confirmed that a design team is not yet in place for the project.

The issue was raised with HSE management by Roscommon Independent Cllr Tony Ward, who says the Sacred Heart home provides a vital service for the elderly people of the county, and needs the investment which was promised before the 2016 general election.

The HSE says "it's a priority to have a design team appointed this year" for the new 50-bed unit, but Councillor Ward says it doesn't appear to be a priority - he claims a design team could be put together quickly to get this project moving.
