The young man who died following a single-vehicle road traffic collision near Ballyhaunis last night has been named locally as 19-year-old, Jason Killeen.

Jason Killeen from Eden, Knock died in the crash on the N60 in a car travelling in the Ballinlough direction.

The incident occurred shortly before 11pm last night in the Cloonafarna area close to the Roscommon border.

Mr Killeen was pronounced dead at the scene and  a 21-year-old man was transferred to Mayo University Hospital by ambulance, his injuries are not believed to be serious.

The road was closed between Ballyhaunis and Ballinlough while a forensic collision investigation was completed, it reopened earlier this afternoon.

The circumstances of the fatal road traffic collision are being investigated by Gardaí from Claremorris who are appealing to any persons who travelled along the N60 between 10:30pm and 11.15pm yesterday evening to check for video footage (including dashcam) and make it available to them.
