Anyone who makes a complaint about anti social behaviour by a local authority tenant can be assured that their identity will not be revealed by Mayo County Council. That’s an assurance from Swinford Fianna Fail councillor Michael Smyth.
At this aftenoon’s monthly meeting of Mayo County Council Cllr Smyth is calling on the authority to carry out a review of its policy and procedures in dealing with anti-social behaviour in local authority housing estates.
He wants a penalty system to be explored for persistent offenders and an adjudication process to be considered by the Housing Special Policy Committee of the authority.
He is suggesting that the adjudication system would consider complaints made by other residents or citizens, which would recommend formal legal action by the local authority.
Cllr Smyth spoke to Midwest News today.
