People in the Oranmore and Renmore areas of Galway are being urged to adhere to the public health advice on social distancing and hygiene, following a surge in cases.

307 new cases of Covid-19 were confirmed yesterday evening in the Republic of Ireland - the highest daily total since early May.

This includes 6 new cases in Galway, on top of 6 further cases on Monday, 9 on Sunday and 7 on Saturday.

28 confirmed cases over 4 days is causing some concern, and public health officials in the HSE West have alerted GPS and schools in Galway to clusters in the area from Oranmore to Renmore.

The outbreaks are being investigated and contact tracing is ongoing.

Speaking to Midwest News, Oranmore-based County Councillor Liam Carroll is appealing to people to adhere to the public health advice to try and halt the spread of the virus..
