Midlands- Northwest MEP Mairead McGuinness has been confirmed as Ireland's EU Commissioner.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has confirmed that Ms McGuinness will take on the financial services portfolio.
The trade portfolio- left vacant by the resignation of Phil Hogan following the Golfgate controversy in Clifden - goes to the former Prime Minister of Latvia.
Mairead McGuinness was first elected a member of the European Parliament in July 2004 for the midlands-northwest constituency, and has served as First Vice-President of the European Parliament since 2017.
Prior to becoming a Fine Gael MEP, she was a well-known journalist and broadcaster.
