There is a major omission in the planning of greenways across the eastern part of Mayo at present. That's the view of Western Rail Trail campaigner Brendan Quinn.
The long time campaigner for the development of a greenway across counties Sligo and Leitrim, and along the rail corridor between Athenry and Miltown, says that significant funding, well in excess of a million euro was announced by government last week to undertake feasibility studies for greenway developments in this region.
But he argues that that there is a gaping hole in the plan because a greenway looks set to be put in place that will link Collooney to Charlestown and Athenry to Miltown - but no link planned by Mayo County Council to link Charlestown in east Mayo to Miltown in county Galway.
Brendan told Midwest News today, however, that he is delighted with last week's extensive funding announced for the development of greenways across this region.
