A Co Galway publican and county councillor is organising a meeting of rural publicans from along the Western seaboard, to put pressure on Government to allow pubs reopen.

Fianna Fail Councillor Joe Sheridan, who runs Walsh's pub in Dunmore, says it's unfair that the pub sector has been singled out as "the whipping boy" for public health.

Councillor Sheridan has confirmed that Minister Dara Calleary has agreed to meet with a deputation of publicans from across the region- hopefully within the next week.

Speaking to Midwest News, Councillor Sheridan said the decision to further postpone the reopening of pubs is a further nail in the coffin of rural Ireland....
