Mayo County Council in association with An Garda Siochana have initiated a road safety campaign for the duration of the August Bank Holiday weekend.
The campaign is called 'Go on Go on Take a break’ and its aim is to encourage drivers to plan their actions before they head out on their travels.
Road signs of Mrs Doyle from Fr Ted (played by Pauline McLynn) will be erected around the County and will have road safety slogans on them reminding drivers to freshen up by taking a break to avoid fatigue.
Mayo's Road Safety Officer Noel Gibbons said this weekend is by far one of the busiest and unfortunately the deadliest weekends on Irish roads.
The Cathaoirleach of Mayo County Council Cllr Richard Finn told Midwest News that its important motorists take care on long drives across the region this weekend.
