Funding of over one million euro has been approved for Ireland West Airport Knock.
Almost €2.5 million in total has been awarded to three regional airports for safety and security upgrades.
Kerry airport will receive the largest amount, with an allocation of €1.17 million.
Ireland West Airport Knock received just over €1 million while Donegal, he smallest of the State’s airports, received €276,871.
This funding is part of the National Development Plan.
Mayo Fine Gael Deputy Michael Ring says this funding is a substantial boost to Ireland West Airport Knock during these very difficult times for the aviation industry.
Deputy Ring has also called this evening for rural pubs to be allowed to open as they are part of our culture and the tourism product.
