With pleasant weather throughout the weekend, the greenway between Westport and Achill Sound was experiencing record number of walkers and cyclists.
Many so called “staycationers” forced to holiday in Ireland this Summer due to the Covid 19 international travel restrictions, appear to be opting for West Mayo in large numbers, and making use of the 42km of greenway that runs along the coastline.
The town of Newport, like Westport, Achill and Mulranny are all busy with tourists.
The Grainne Uaile Bar in Newport is just one of the premises serving food to hungry cyclists and walkers, and like every other business in the trade has to make significant changes to ensure that they are meeting the new covid regulations.
Proprieter Liz Mcmenamon has been telling Midwest News about some of the adaptations they have made and the delight in seeing so many “staycationers” in the area.
