The Vatican has indicated that it supports re-burying hundreds of babies who died in the Tuam Mother and Baby Home.
Rome's Ambassador to Ireland, Archbishop Jude Thaddeus Okolo, said that the children's remains should be exhumed.
The Vatican’s ambassador to Ireland told Tuam historian Catherine Corless in a letter that he shared the views of the archbishop of Tuam Michael Neary to rebury the victims in consecrated ground.
The latest statement from the Vatican follows an Al Jazeera documentary into the site at Tuam, which was aired in the past ten days.
The bodies of over 800 babies and toddlers were buried in underground chambers at the site.
Previously, draft laws were announced which would allow for the excavation of remains, but the Tuam burial site still remains intact.
Breeda Murphy PRO of the Tuam Mother and Baby Alliance says the babies deserve to be re-buried with dignity
