Publican Marie Mellet, of Mellets Pub and Bar Swinford says the government’s decision to pause the opening of pubs is confusing, as she believes it will inevitably lead to more house parties over the next three and a half weeks.
She, like many other publicans across the region were stocked and ready for re-opening from Monday next, investing in major adaptations to their premises to adhere to social distancing and covid regulations.
Marie explained to Midwest News today that she had her kegs secured yesterday for Monday's re-opening and she said she is now looking at them today with a level of anger.
The government, she claims, are treating publicans and patrons like children, for some reason assuming that they cannot behave appropriately.
She is now pleading for clear guidelines now for pubs to meet covid regulations ahead of the August 10th date.
