Fines of up to 2,500 euro and or six months in jail will be the penalty for failing to wear face masks on public transport.
The laws, which are due to come into effect on Monday, will also allow people be stopped from boarding if they're not wearing a mask.
It comes as yesterday saw the biggest number of reported new cases of Covid 19 in almost a month.
25 were confirmed along with one additional death.
There is one new case confirmed in both Mayo and Sligo and also a denotification in Galway bringing their totals to 573, 147 and 486 respectively.
Leitrim and Roscommon remain unchanged on 82 and 346 confirmed cases of the virus.
