A brother of the late Detective Garda Colm Horkan has thanked the public for their support since Colm was shot and fatally injured while on duty in Castlerea three weeks ago tonight.

A native of Charlestown, Colm Horkan was on duty in Castlerea when he was shot a number of times on Main Street and died from his injuries.

His three brothers and his father Marty were invited to Shannon's Cross outside Loughglynn yesterday, to a service marking the 40th anniversary of the deaths of Garda Henry Byrne and Detective Garda John Morley, both from Knock and stationed in Castlerea, who were killed in the line of duty in 1980.

Dermot Horkan has thanked their neighbours in particular, and the wider community as well as An Garda Siochana for their support in the weeks since Colm's death....
