A Mayo publican is backing cross-industry calls for the temporary reduction in the hospitality VAT rate and its extension to apply to alcohol sales, until the end of the year.
Alan Gielty of Gielty’s Clew Bay Bar and Restaurant in Achill has added his voice to the calls from the Vintners Federation of Ireland, the Licensed Vintners Association and Drinks Ireland.
The Mayo Chair of the VFI says that businesses across the sector will be running at a maximum capacity of around 50% to comply with health guidelines and will need more financial assistance.
The Government will review the provisions for the hospitality sector when the Dail meets next Tuesday.
Geilty’s Clew Bay Bar and Restaurant only reopened today and its owner Alan Gielty says a reduction in VAT rates would give small businesses a chance to get back onto their feet again.
