Fianna Fáil Senator Eugene Murphy has said the potential loss of 120 jobs at the US manufacturing company APTAR in Ballinasloe, County Galway would be a ‘devastating blow’ for the region.

The plastics technology company has been based in the IDA business park in the town for the last 20 years.

They produce pump dispensing units for the perfume and cosmetic industry and are a subsidiary of a French manufacturing company.

Senator Murphy says he understands that workers were called to a meeting yesterday afternoon and informed of plans to wind up operations in September.
