An Erris-based TD is calling on the HSE to recommence admitting patients to Belmullet District Hospital without delay.
Mayo Deputy Rose Conway-Walsh has made the call after it emerged that the north Mayo hospital was no longer admitting patients.
The Sinn Fein TD claims that ‘minor maintenance works’ was the stated reason from the HSE as to why there are currently only five patients at the District Hospital.
Deputy Conway-Walsh says it is vital that step down patients from Mayo University Hospital and respite care return to the Belmullet Hospital.
She told Midwest News that any centralisation of hospital services away from Belmullet will not be accepted by the local community.
