The funeral service for George Floyd - who's death sparked global 'Black Lives Matter' protests - will take place in Houston, USA, later today.
Mr Floyd died two weeks ago during his arrest by police in Minneapolis. Following his death large protests highlighting racial inequalities have been happening worldwide.
He's been laid in a gold-coloured casket at a church in the Texas city, where he grew up. Thousands of mourners have been paying their respects.
At yesterday’s monthly meeting of Mayo County Council councillors condemned the death of George Floyd and also condemned racism.
Killala based councillor Jarlath Munnelly proposed the condemnation, saying there was worldwide outrage at what happened to Mr Floyd and he said it had brought to the fore again the need to condemn racism of any kind, in county Mayo, nationally and internationally.
Cllr Munnelly’s view was supported by all councillors present.
He’s been speaking to Midwest News today about why it was appropriate to add the county council’s voice to the international call to eliminate racism.
