A Swinford newsagents has closed its doors permanently after over 200 years in business.
Mellett’s Newsagency has been selling newspapers in the town for around 223 years and has been in its current location since 1985.
The family business announced on their social media platforms yesterday that the shop would not be reopening again, after closing on St Patricks Day due to social distancing concerns.
The business has been in the family for seven generations and is the latest in a number of small shops to close due to the decline of the print newspaper industry.
Joe Mellett is the owner of Mellett’s Newsagency and he told Midwest News that the decision to close the shop didn’t come lightly.
