Over half of second-level teachers in Co Mayo have reported slow or bad internet coverage, which is hampering their efforts to teach students online during the coronavirus outbreak.

That's according to a new survey carried out by Studyclix.ie, which found that unreliable internet access is a barrier to teaching for one in three teachers across the country.

In Mayo, 53% of teachers have reported slow or bad internet coverage, while 38% of their students have either no device, or no internet access.

The survey of 1500 teachers was carried out earlier this week, and Studyclix founder Luke Saunders, based in Sligo, told Midwest News that poor broadband coverage is causing serious problems - particularly for Leaving Cert students and their teachers.
