402 new cases were diagnosed yesterday in the Republic –the highest number detected ever in a single day, meaning the total number of confirmed cases now stands at 3,849.
There are now 52 confirmed cases in Mayo, 91 in Galway, 25 in Sligo and 10 in Roscommon.
Chief medical officer Tony Holohan says health officials have to be sure the country can cope with lifting of restrictions.
