The National Public Health Emergency Team meets this morning to assess if restrictions on movement should be extended beyond April 12th.

The death toll from Covid-19 in the Republic has risen to 98, with 13 further patients dying from the virus yesterday.

3 of those deaths in the last 24 hours were in the west.

402 new cases were diagnosed yesterday in the Republic –the highest number detected ever in a single day, meaning the total number of confirmed cases now stands at 3,849.

There are now 52 confirmed cases in Mayo, 91 in Galway, 25 in Sligo and 10 in Roscommon.

Chief medical officer Tony Holohan says  health officials have to be sure the country can cope with lifting of restrictions.
