It’s natural to worry during a pandemic but controlling your use of social media in this crisis in an important way of keeping control over the fear. That’s the advise from HSE psychologist Dr William Mowlds.
Dr Mowlds advises listening to official news media like Midwest Radio or checking the HSE information website to get factual information surrounding Covid 19 and the restrictive controls in place to control the spread of the virus, in an effort to cope with the challenges it presents and maintain mental well-being.
He has been speaking to Midwest Radio about the level of worry and anxiety that many are experiencing at this time and is advising people to limit their social media at this time where, he said, you often expose yourself to more worried and anxious people.
He said the term "physical distancing" is preferable to "social distancing" to curb the spread of the virus, as he explained its important to keep in contact with anyone self-isolating or cocooning, yet imperative to maintain physical distancing.
