A 28 year-old man, who was arrested yesterday following the discovery of a cannabis grow house in Claremorris, has been charged and is due in court this morning.

Gardai from the Mayo Divisional Drugs Unit, assisted by Claremorris Gardai and the Armed Support Unit, carried out a planned search of an industrial premises in Claremorris yesterday afternoon.

The industrial unit was converted into a grow-house for large-scale production, and Gardai seized over 300 cannabis plants with an estimated street value of about €250,000.

A 28-year old man was arrested under the Misuse of Drugs Act.

Gardai have now confirmed that the man has been charged and will appear before Castlebar District Court later this morning.

Claremorris-based Superintendent Gabriel Moran said that, despite their clear focus on supporting communities during the challenges of Covid-19, Mayo Gardai will continue to investigate crime and target those selling drugs in our communities.
