Former Roscommon-Galway TD Eugene Murphy has secured a Fianna Fail nomination for the Seanad elections.

Mr Murphy, who lost his Dail seat in last month's general election, says he's delighted to receive on the of the 13 inside nominations for the party, and he will be a candidate on the Agricultural panel.

Despite the fact that he got 9,200 votes in the February election, Eugene Murphy says the Roscommon-Galway constituency has now been left without a Fianna Fail Oireachtas member, which he says is very unfortunate.

He hopes his 30 years as a public representative and experience of the agricultural sector will ensure he takes a seat in the Upper House.
