The Society of the Irish Motor Industry official new vehicle statistics show that new car registrations for February were down 8% (13,915) when compared to February 2019 (15,069).

Registrations this year to date are also down 5% (45,096) on the same period last year (47,439).

Mayo had the greatest drop in new vehicle registration compared with February 2019, down 7%, followed by Galway down 5% and Roscommon down 2%.

Only two counties across the west had an increase in new car registration compared with February of last year, Sligo with 0.2% increase and Leitrim with 17% increase.

For the month of February 401 new electric vehicles were registered nationally compared to 325 on the same month last year up 23%.
