Fine Gael Councillor Patsy O’Brien has also been nominated for a place in the Seanad.

The Robeen-based councillor has been a longstanding member of Mayo County Council and will be vying for one of nine seats on the industrial and commercial panel.

One of the councillor’s main aims if elected to the Seanad is to seek the return of a part of south Mayo, which was transferred to the Galway West constituency before the 2016 General Election.

He told Midwest Radio that he was delighted to receive the nomination to run in the Senate elections.
