The increase in age, to 67, to receive a state pension from next year is wrong according to election candidate in Mayo Joe Daly of the Solidarity/ People Before Profit party and as a result the party is organising a protest on the matter tomorrow in Castlebar.
It gets underway from Market Square in Castlebar at 12 noon tomorrow and all are welcome.
Mr Daly says many people are contractually obliged to retire at 65, but the state pension isn't available until a person turns 66 at present.
The protest tomorrow will call on the Government to abandon plans to further increase the pension age to 67 by next year, and to 68 by 2028.
He says that each year’s increase in pension age will cost a worker almost 13,000 a year.
He has been telling Midwest News more about tomorrow’s protest.
