Despite promises, those living on Mayo and Galway islands will again be forced to go to the polling stations ahead of the rest of the country on the 8TH February.

Fianna Fáil TD for Galway West, Éamon Ó Cuív, says he is bitterly disappointed that due to inordinate delays in the Department of Housing, Planning and Local Government, the Electoral (Amendment) Bill 2014, was not passed in time to ensure same day voting on the Islands as on the main land.

Deputy Ó Cuív insists that his Bill had gone through Second Stage in the Dáil and following discussions with the relevant Minister, it was agreed, due to Dáil procedures, that the Minister would get some small amendments drafted, so that the Bill could proceed speedily to Committee and Report Stage, however, that had not happened when the Dail was dissolved last week.

He told Midwest News today that it highlights the inefficiency of the Fine Gael government dealing with matters that are agreed in the Oireachtas.
