The students and staff of St Angela’s National School in Castlebar were full of Christmas cheer when Midwest Radio visited the school last week.

Principal Nessa Maloney and her 29 strong staff and 350 students were all involved in the excitement of the occasion.

They were singing Christmas carols. The senior band under the stewardship of Caoimhe Kilkenny was in fine tune, while Jamie Mulrooney of Music Generation Mayo had students from 4th to 6th class strumming on ukeles to all the festive favourites.

Midwest News called into second class and spoke to the students of both Ms McNamara and Ms Cronnolly about the first Christmas night, what Santa looks like and how he manages to deliver Christmas presents to children throughout the world in one night.

While the senior infants had just returned from Castlebar Post Office with their teachers where they had all queued up and secured a special stamp to post their letters to the North Pole.
