The Cathaoirleach of Roscommon County Council has asked the Minister for Finance to consider offering incentives for foreign direct investors to provide employment in the area around Ireland West Airport Knock.
Councillor Paschal Fitzmaurice has pointed to the success of the Shannon Airport Tax-Free Zone. and asked Minister Pascal Donohue to consider doubling employment grants for foreign investors within a 30 km radius of the Mayo airport.
The Finance Minister was in Roscommon yesterday to launch the Rossie Strategy - a new strategy to try and attract emigrants back to the county.
As part of the strategy, the first-ever Roscommon Day will take place on 21st June next year, where Rossies at home and abroad can celebrate their native county.
