The monthly meeting of Mayo County Council is underway in Castlebar, but Sinn Fein Councillor Gerry Murray walked out of the meeting within the first hour.

It followed heated debate about last Monday's Budget meeting of Mayo County Council, when the 2020 Budget was adopted, after no counter-proposal was made.

Councillor Murray claims the Cathaoirleach, Councillor Brendan Mulroy, failed to concede on an adjournment when it was sought at last Monday's meeting, and described his performance as "disgraceful".

CEO of Mayo County Council Peter Hynes said that procedurally, last week's budget meeting met all the requirements.

When Councillor Gerry Murray was asked to retract his comments about the Cathaoirleach's performance, he refused to do so, and walked out of the meeting.
