The Oireachtas Health Committee is calling on the Irish Wheelchair Association to defer the planned closure of the Cuisle respite centre in Co Roscommon until the new year.

The Cuisla facility in Donamon is set to close its doors this week with the loss of 48 jobs - the charity says the cost of renovations is more than it can afford.

Over a thousand people attended a rally in Roscommon town over the weekend, calling for the decision to be reversed.
