The failure of Facebook and the Gardai to act on facebook posters that have been online for years against the executive of the Quinn Holding Group, was raised by Westport Independent councillor Christy Hyland with the Garda Commisioner Drew Harris when the Commissioner was in Castlebar last week.
Commissioner Harris attended the Mayo Joint Policing Committee and he encouraged any councillors that were harassed or bullied online to immediately report such incident to the gardai.
However, councillor Hyland asked the Commissioner why posters left on a facebook site for years against members of the executive of the Quinn Holding Group were never prosecuted under incitement to hatred legislation.
The cllr said the local gardai were aware of the posters on facebook, and he asked why was facebook executive not contacted and made to remove the post.
He outlined his frustration with the response he got to Midwest News.
