29 separate collisions have taken place on the N84 Headford to Galway road over the past three years, according Independent Galway Cllr. James Charity.
The cllr says the gardai have confirmed this figure to him and he says the vast majority of the collisions occurred on the section between Corrandulla and Galway City.
He said it highlights a serious danger to locals in the area, as well as commuters travelling to and from the city to North Galway/South Mayo.
Four of the accidents resulted in serious injury, and the case for an upgrade of this section of road is now irrefutable, he argues.
Cllr Charity is to present the data to the Minister for Transport, as well as the Roads Department of Galway County Council,as he says “it is imperative that action is now taken in the short term by the Department to give the local authority the go-ahead to upgrade this road.
